Formative Forces – natural forms as archives of growth, resistance and transformation. The growth of a wind-shaped tree, the layers of a shell and the furrows of bark preserve the forces through which they came into being. My sculptures reveal these traces and translate them into steel.

At the heart of my work are formative forces: the external and internal forces through which nature generates form. I understand natural forms as records of growth, resistance and transformation. They embody time and movement, impact and adaptation.

A tree inscribes the pressure of the wind into its growth. A shell expands its form layer by layer. Bark protects the living organism while bearing the traces of its development. Such forms are not fixed states, but visible records of continuous change.

My sculptures do not simply reproduce these natural phenomena. They translate their formative principles into a distinct sculptural language. The “Windkörper” (“Wind Bodies”) explore how external forces act upon a body and become inscribed within it. “Borke 5” (“Bark 5”) and “Unter der Haut” (“Beneath the Skin”) focus on the surface as a boundary between the visible and the concealed. In the shell forms, growth becomes perceptible as movement through space.

Steel is both a counterpoint and a means of expression. Its hardness and permanence meet a capacity for transformation that allows substantial volumes as well as delicate structures to emerge. Deformations, welds and traces of the making process remain visible as signs of formation. The controlled application of heat also reveals steel’s inherent chromatic range—from deep reds and browns to luminous shades of yellow.

My work presents form as condensed time: grown, shaped and transformed—preserved in steel.
