Dialogue: 50 years of the Berlin Sculpture Symposium & Sculpture Summer in Pirna
SteinBruchZeit & posture.postures
Come along on a day trip to the Sculpture Summer in Pirna and talk to the artists of the Berlin Sculpture Symposium!
Sculpture Network Dialogue - Sunday, 23 June 2024
To mark the anniversary of the Berlin Sculpture Symposium founded in 1974 under the patronage of the VBK (Association of Visual Artists) of the GDR, the StadtMuseum Pirna is showing works that were created during the numerous symposia in the Reinhardtsdorf quarry (Saxon Switzerland - Eastern Ore Mountains). We will join the artist talk with the sculptors Marguerite Blume-Cárdenas (Berlin) and Ursula Güttsches (Dresden) at the finissage of the exhibition SteinBruchZeit.Â
Marguerite Blume-Cárdenas has been actively involved in the symposium since its inception and took over the organisation in 2010, succeeding its founder Karl Möpert. Ursula Güttsches, also a long-standing symposium participant, is the curator of the anniversary exhibition. Other artists, such as Sculpture Network member Robert Schmidt-Matt, will also be present.
Before we will have a guided tour at the Pirna Sculpture Summer on the castle Sonnenstein, high above the town. With figures, installations and interventions below the castle, in the bastions of the former fortifications, Pirna's culture prize winner Christiane Stoebe is showing sculptures from Germany and the Czech Republic under the title ‘Posture.Postrures’ sculptures from Germany and the Czech Republic. The exhibition invites visitors to adopt different attitudes: towards themselves, towards ‘you’ and towards the issues of our time.
