ROHKUNSTBAU - the name has stood for international exhibitions of contemporary art in Brandenburg for three decades now. The 30th ROHKUNSTBAU means: for the 30th time, top-class artists from numerous countries will be bringing their works into dialog with the historical architecture of a Brandenburg castle, opening up new perspectives and ways of looking at the present. This year with a new curator: the Berlin cultural historian and exhibition organizer Christoph Tannert will flood the rooms of the baroque castle Altdöbern in the district of Oberspreewald- Lausitz with contemporary art.
The theme of the 30th ROHKUNSTBAU is “Aesthetic Rearmament”. In the face of a worldwide (re)nationalization and (re)ideologization of cultural policy, which is increasingly proving to be overbearing towards art and society, a return to the autonomy of art is essential. Can artistic practice be seen as self-defense against the political challenges of the present? Is art still a place for critical reflection in a world of violence, war and terror? And in view of a technologically rapidly changing reality, could it offer itself as an instance of moral reassurance?
The exhibition “Aesthetic Rearmament” relies on the intrinsic power of art and its ability to resist media-uniformized viewing habits and behaviours. Using site-specific works, the exhibition searches for alternatives to the loss of experience within a reality dynamized by AI. At the center of the exhibition are 18 advanced artistic positions that see their social function precisely in insisting on the very essence of art, its autonomy, freedom and creativity.
Opening hours: Fri, from 13.00 to 18.00, Sat and Sun from 12.00 to 18.00 Tickets: 12,- € / reduced 7,- €
