WINDOWS GALLERY – Faculty of Fine Arts

The Windows Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade presents works by Nevena Popovic created during the period 2011-2018.

Her research focuses on the psychological states of individuals and the social circumstances that affect them, and the search for new possibilities of visual expression. As she tries to express utterly immaterial, abstract concepts, such as time and various emotional states, through the material form, she finds help in the absence of the visible and it is this element (air, wind, empty space) that she uses to build a sculpture. It is present to a greater or lesser extent in all her works.

“By dealing with aspects of time, I was touching on the space all the time and in that way tried to show their relation of reciprocity. We witness an intensive changing and transformation of space, by whose annulling all these time layers that have formed it disappear, too. I found this phenomenon especially intriguing in view of the situation that today’s society is deadened by a quiet fear that excludes the possibility of resistance. Then, the language of art remains as a possible language for illuminating the reality and an attempt of resistance.”
