Confluence

Installed at One Shenzhen Bay in China, Confluence acts as a point of quiet reflection amid the movement of the city. The sculpture invites viewers to walk around it slowly and experience its changing silhouettes from multiple perspectives. Through this work, I aim to express the interconnectedness of people, places and histories, and the beauty that emerges when different forces come together as one continuous flow.

Confluence explores the meeting of movement, memory and transformation through a flowing sculptural form that appears both grounded and in motion. I created this work as a meditation on the ways different experiences, cultures and emotional states merge together over time, shaping identity in subtle and unpredictable ways. The sculpture twists upward in a continuous rhythm, suggesting currents of water, rising energy and the organic growth patterns found in nature.

The bronze-like surface captures and reflects changing light throughout the day, allowing the work to shift visually depending on the viewer’s position and surrounding environment. I wanted the form to feel simultaneously powerful and delicate, balancing solidity with fluidity. Its layered curves fold into one another like converging streams, creating moments of tension, harmony and release.
