Galatea

Statuary marble with Bardiglio marble base.

Galatea takes its name from the Greek myth of a sculptor who carved a figure so beautiful it came to life. Two forms rise from a single base and spiral around each other, reaching upward before meeting at the top. The shapes suggest two bodies in conversation, leaning in, pulling apart, finding each other again.

The piece is carved from a single block of white marble. The surface is polished smooth so the stone catches light from every angle, and the openings between the forms let the landscape behind it become part of the work. Depending on where you stand, the sculpture changes completely.
