As the Fragments sculptures pass into the creative act of destruction, they reveal our perishable nature.
In Fragments, Blake seeks to draw attention to our ideas of the aesthetic by creating purposefully de-constructed sculptures. The destruction of this work is a crime against art as much as the violence implied is a crime against humanity.
This is a act against art itself, and has become an aesthetic endeavour within this series of works. The destruction of this work denies the principal upon which the creative spirit is based and flourishes. Regarded as a defiant and desperate act. As form of derivative art the Fragmented Series is indeed based in the idea of destruction.
