Created on a completely digital platform, Callisto was born purely of mathematical geometry, yet an interior structure, that serves a mechanical purpose within the sculpture would be used as a physical form in an attempt to explore and represent a notion of being that speaks of the our increasingly intellectual and spiritual world today.
Attempting to evolve with our changing world these 3D printed bronze sculptures celebrate both our intellectual and spiritual strengths, while unveiling our weaknesses, they beckon us to look inside ourselves and awake, to commemorate our humanity and our inner beauty.
A digital platform was seen as the only possible way in which I could attempt to represent a notion of our psychological abilities pertaining the branch of metaphysics devoted to the soul. The ability of the imagination to develop shapes and see forms mentally could now be paired with a technology that would, to a certain extent, be able to realize those imagined forms and thus could be used to create a representation, within the physical sculpture, to speak of our interior landscape, and some aspects of metaphysics that might contribute to our understanding of being.
The representation of the figure would be reduced to various extents, exposing the interior to reveal our inner landscapes. In creating these intimate and complex structures I began with the mechanical in the first piece within the collection; Devorah, and have moved towards the organic within Callisto. By stripping the figure of the exterior shell the work also accentuates our faiblesses, underlining the splendour of our imperfections and our distinctive individual signatures.
