HARTMUT STIELOW - Counterplay

After more than forty years of sculptural practice, in which the dialectical relationship between steel and granite has been central, Hartmut Stielow is breaking new ground with his graphic works, known as “rust prints.” Sculpture and graphic art, the development of the figure in space on the one hand, the design of the visual world on a flat surface on the other: the difference in artistic approach could hardly be greater. And yet Stielow consistently develops his graphic works from his sculpture, applying the principles of support and load to them as well, experimenting with combinations of materials, and using pieces from his sculptural work as pictorial elements in his rust prints. The current exhibition at Feinkunstraum explores this richly relational interplay between graphic art and sculpture.

Opening: on 7 November 2025 at 7 p.m.
