Sinéad McCarthy

Sinéad McCarthy is a curatorial director and contemporary art curator with over 16 years’ experience developing and delivering ambitious public art commissions, exhibitions, and cultural programmes for major arts institutions. Her practice focuses on commissioning new work, supporting artists in the development of site-responsive projects, and creating platforms for public engagement with contemporary art.

She has held key curatorial and production roles with organisations including Futurecity, Museum of the Home, Liverpool Biennial, the Barbican, and Artangel, where she has led the development of large-scale public artworks, artist commissions, and interdisciplinary cultural programmes.

Sinéad holds an MFA in Curating and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and History of Art from Goldsmiths, University of London. Her work is shaped by a research-led and collaborative approach, working closely with artists, institutions, and communities to develop thoughtful curatorial narratives and meaningful public encounters with art. She has edited and contributed to a number of publications including The Vulgar: Fashion Redefined (Koenig Books, 2016), Liverpool Biennial 2018: Beautiful world, where are you? (Art Books, 2018), and The Art of Place: Station Hill's Public Art Story (2024).
