Fully-funded Ceramic Artist/Teacher Residency
ERIN DONOHUE AND FAMILY FULLY FUNDED CERAMIC ARTIST IN RESIDENCY
This Residency is funded by the Donohue family to support a five-week residency for a ceramic artist to come and teach 2 five-week classes in the fall session (starts mid-October). One of these classes will be geared to community members who could benefit from a Healing in the Arts experience. Another class must be geared toward intermediate and advanced level students or professionals.
Goals:
- Provide master level classes as professional development to island ceramicists.
- Give an annual free Healing in the Arts class to community members.
- Support the vibrancy of our robust ceramics department.
Expectations for the Artist:
- Resident will teach specific techniques and processes that result in a finished artwork(s) for students.
- Work with department head to design curriculum needed at Visual Arts Center.
- Work in the studio to produce their own artwork.
- Engage with fellow ceramists at AAN.
- Present and/or exhibit at the VAC at a 65/35 commission structure.
Funding Details:
- Travel stipend, up to $500 reimbursement
- Stipend of $1000 to the artist at arrival, and also $1000 at departure.
- Apartment fee of $375 x 5 weeks funded ($1625)
- $875 teaching a free class Note: Residents may have a guest for $100 per week, residents will be paid a mutually agreed upon rate for any additional classes taught.
Application Requirements:
1. Current CV/Resume highlights (maximum 3 pages)
2. Artist Statement (200 words or less)
3. Artists Bio (200 words or less)
4. 10 digital images of your work, including a list of images with title, media, dimensions, date, and your name.
5. Cover letter with a brief description of your work (in 300 words or less).
6. Please include a brief proposal of your workshop/class, and where you first heard about the residency.
7. Email and phone contacts for 3 references. Please describe their relationship to you. Your references should be a current or recent (within 5 years) employer, teacher, gallerist, mentor.
