Neuenburger Art Week "Soil and Earth"

For the 41st Art Week, the raw material "wood" will be the theme of the art week. Since the 19th century, the town of Neuenburg has been known far beyond the borders of the Frisian Wehde (Wehde = forest) for its woodworking trade. In 1984, some of the founding members of the art association were themselves carpenters, turners and wood sculptors. Consequently, the "Bahner e.V." art association dedicated its first art week - over 40 years ago - to the theme of "wood".

The renewable material is experiencing a "renaissance" not only in the construction industry. More and more artists have rediscovered the sustainable raw material for their current works. From 26 August to 1 September 2024, the "Bahner" art association would like to trace the changes in the art scene after more than a generation and invite artists who use the old material in an individual and innovative way for their current works.

We are looking for artists who utilise the material "wood" in all its diversity. The call for entries is explicitly not limited to the classic uses of the raw material for sculptures, reliefs, objects or inlays. In order to represent a current cross-section of contemporary wood art, artists are particularly sought who use the well-known material innovatively and, if necessary, in unusual ways for their art.

The results of the art week will then be presented to the public in the final presentation (Saturday and Sunday). Saturday and Sunday are reserved for dialogue with guests of the art week. On these days, the invited artists will open their studio workshops to the public and be available to answer questions from interested visitors.
A small programme booklet will be published for the art week, in which the participating artists and their works will be presented.

The invited artists receive a lump-sum expense allowance of €900 as well as free board and lodging. Participation in the art week will be advertised nationwide.
