OPEN CALL to Artists
We are inviting artists to take part in the International Symposium of Contemporary Art. The project is an important element of the Centre’s programme and is supported by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and private entities. The programme of the event includes workshops for professional sculptors and young volunteers acting as assistants, students/graduates of artistic universities, as well as lectures and discussions concerning important challenges of contemporary culture and ways artists face those challenges, including the verification of the usability of traditional techniques and materials in the context of searching for new forms of artistic expression and new techniques and materials to develop the field of sculpture and widen the audience thereof.

Based on the verification of projects, the Centre will choose the participants. During the event they will create their original spacious projects on: Damages and repairs, which will be exhibited in the park in Orońsko.

Projects can be created by use of all techniques and materials which can be contrasted with the nature and exhibited in the outdoor space. The participants will carry out their artistic activities on the basis of CRP’s technical resources in cooperation with the Centre’s employees and volunteers acting as their assistants. ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE

Artistic residencies are one of the key areas of Centre of Polish Sculpture’s activity. Each year Orońsko hosts many Polish and foreign artists. We also hold workshops, open-air meetings, seminars and exhibitions of contemporary art. Specialist studios of ceramic art, foundry, smithy and carpenter’s shop provide comprehensive services to artists and give them opportunity to produce many demanding projects. It all makes the Centre of Polish Sculpture a unique place compared with other centres dealing with contemporary art. Additionally, the programme of artistic residencies is an answer to the extremely difficult social situation of artists during the pandemic. Each year residencies focus on a theme selected by the curatorial team. We would like our artists in residence to base their activities first of all on the collaboration with the institution, local community and to fully use the potential of combining many domains of art and science. The programme assumes one-month-long study stays at the Centre of Polish Sculpture during which participants are able to receive full technical and substantive assistance. The description of the programme and ways of application are included in the pdf file.

Within the framework of the programme we offer:

  • Remuneration
  • Covering the cost of realization of the project
  • Meetings with curators, art historians, artists
  • Access to library and archive resources
  • Technological assistance
  • Promotion of work and results of residency
  • Artists staying together with children are offered the care of qualified educators

SYMPOSIUM OF CONTEMPORARY SCULPTURE

The Symposium of Contemporary Sculpture is an international project inaugurated at the Centre in 2020. Each edition will be devoted to selected sites and local contexts. The participants – artists and students of art academies – will be chosen in an open-call mode. In the first edition, the agenda of the event involved practical workshops, exhibitions, lectures and discussion pertaining to urgent challenges of contemporary culture and the ways sculptors confront them. The project entails inviting specialists from various fields – artists, architects, urban developers, art critics and art historians, philosophers, anthropologists, lecturers and activists – to give lectures. It also assumes extending collaboration with representatives of self-governments responsible for the organization and planning of the public space.

PROPOSEAN EXHIBITION

The Centre of Polish Sculpture boasts remarkable exhibition spaces where each year the viewers can see over a dozen new exhibitions. Among others, these venues include historical buildings now serving as galleries: Orangery, Chapel and Józef Brandt’s Palace with its permanent historical exhibition, which often becomes a background for artistic interventions. The Sculpture Park where the first outdoor exhibitions were organized in the 1960s inspires artists to create projects focusing on ecology, public space and participatory activities. The largest exhibition space is the almost 700 m² main hall of the Museum of Contemporary Sculpture which has been adapted to display monumental objects. We would like to encourage you to make proposals of exhibitions and activities dedicated to our galleries.

The initiative encompasses the following activities: practical workshops, lectures, meetings with theoreticians of art and outstanding artists, an exhibition and academic publication summarizing the event. So far the project has been attended by Polish art academies from Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, Wrocław, Lodz, Poznan, Toruń and foreign academies: University of Ostrava, The Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest and Art Academy of Latvia from Riga.
