Angel of Conception
Leylah was among the very first pieces created in the Spirit collection. At the beginning of this series these works had no interior elements, and even the concepts behind the artworks were only developing. The idea that the interior landscape was to take importance in the work allowed the inside of the bronze to become a focal point, and as the notion of the spirit was developing is evident in this work by the absence of any inner structure.
As one of the very first works in this collection, I thought it fitting to name her after the Angel of Conception, who is believed to watch over the new born spirit from conception to birth and oversees and protects childbirth.
