EKWC Ceramics

Sundaymorning@ekwc is an international workplace where artists, designers and architects explore the technical and artistic possibilities of ceramics.

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

EKWC is an international artist-in-residence and centre-of-excellence for ceramics. For over 50 years, artists, designers and architects from all over the world have worked here to experiment with clay. The experiments result in both special works of art and technical innovations. The works developed here are shown in museums from New York to Tokyo.

The combination of world-class facilities, the presence of consultants with internationally leading technical knowledge and the openness to freely share recipes, processes and innovations, makes EKWC a special place. The mission of the non-profit EKWC is to further develop the material ceramic and to promote its application in art, design and architecture.

The centre is located in the former dyeing and tannery of the Royal United Leather Factory in Oisterwijk, the Netherlands. A monumental building that was once the largest leather factory in Europe. A place where history, inspiration and making are combined for more than a century.

CENTRE-OF-EXCELLENCE

As a centre of excellence,  the EKWC encourages its employees and participants to conduct research in both artistic and technical fields. The acquired knowledge and insights are documented and disseminated internationally through publications, exhibitions, master classes, conferences and libraries.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The EKWC invites artists and designers of all variety, who have worked with clay before, or have never worked with clay before, to participate in our twelve-week residencies. What we need is an imaginative work plan, an experimental attitude, or a strong concept; something you would like to achieve in twelve weeks that would not be possible without the facilities or advice of the experts at the EKWC. The deadline for the application is 31st August 2023 23:59 (CEST) for residencies in 2024.
