Hans Peter Kuhn und Junko Wada: „s/he loves me… s/he loves me not…“
Internationally active artist and composer Hans Peter Kuhn (born in Kiel in 1952, lives and works in Berlin and Amino, Kyoto, Japan) is responsible for countless projects in the fields of light art, performance, dance and theatre.
His high artistic reputation is evidenced not only by his long list of exhibitions, but also by his awards, such as the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale, which he received in 1993 together with the American artist Robert Wilson.
At the same time, he maintains a connection to Schleswig-Holstein and his hometown of Kiel. In 2012, Kuhn created the large light installation "Seefahrer denk an die Sirenen, ahoi" (Sailors, think of the sirens, ahoy) in the Ostuferhafen area, and in 2022, "... im Leben angekommen" (Arrived in life) at the public lift in Gaarden.
Junko Wada (born 1955 in Tokyo, lives and works in Berlin and Amino, Kyoto/Japan) began working with the movement of her body immediately after completing her studies in Tokyo, alongside her work on large-format oil paintings. She experienced her body as a brush, which she used to paint her pictures not on the canvas but in space. This practice led to collaborations with sound artists and the development of her own form of dance. She has appeared worldwide with these performances over the last 30 years. Parallel to these activities, she began painting large-format works again in 2005.
"s/he loves me... s/he loves me not..." - A couple in private life, Hans Peter Kuhn and Junko Wada have repeatedly collaborated artistically in various projects. The exhibition at the Stadtgalerie Kiel is the first time their different works have been brought together in one exhibition. Performative painting and dance are combined with light and sound installations to create an overall installation in the exhibition space of the Stadtgalerie Kiel.
