Elevated Art: Movie night and discussion in Munich
Join us for a screening of the award-winning documentary about the SMACH Biennale 2023, followed by a discussion with director Timian Hopf.
Contemporary art embedded in the spectacular mountain landscape of the Dolomites. Who does something like this? And why?
The SMACH Biennale, which has been taking place since 2012 and is a member of Sculpture Network, presents a series of site-specific artworks in some of the most impressive locations in the Gadertal valley in the Dolomites. These temporary installations invite visitors to reflect on the relationship between art and nature. They encourage imagination, critical thinking and an examination of the impact of humans on the environment.
Timian Hopf is a filmmaker from the Allgäu, a mountainous region in Germany. In 2023, he made an award-winning documentary film in which he captured the entire creative process and the team behind the SMACH Biennale. His film explores the intriguing question: Who brings contemporary art to the dramatic landscapes of the Dolomites – and why? It deals with the challenges of this project and its difficulties in a rural community where contemporary art is still an unknown and sometimes controversial world.
The Monopolkino Munich is showing the film and inviting viewers to a discussion in the cinema hall.
Afterwards, all participants in the dialogue will have the opportunity to enjoy an after-talk with drinks, a showroom and networking.
