XXVI MVM´s Series of Contemporary Music

The 26th edition of Museo Vostell Malpartida´s Series of Contemporary Music (From 12th to 21st September).

The 26th edition of Museo Vostell Malpartida´s Ciclo de Música Contemporánea begins on 12th September with an expanded programme (at the Filmoteca de Extremadura in Cáceres) celebrating the legacy of composer and artist Phill Niblock, who sadly passed away earlier this year. The works included in this unusual programme explore concepts and strategies that diverge from what we normally understand as ‘audiovisual’ –that is to say, ‘sound and image in movement’– and in a certain way are connected with the first concert of the series, to take place on 13th September at Museo Vostell Malpartida, which will consist of the Spanish premiere of the latest audio-visual performance by People Like Us, created following the formula of collage: ‘cut and paste’.

In the following week we move to the Iberian Peninsula and the (unorthodox) instrumentation. First, on 20th September, Dr. Truna (Andrés Blasco) and Mike Cooper –both based in Valencia– will join forces to give –with more than four hands?– a concert of freely improvised music that will transport us to Retro-Futurism and Dadaism, two subjects closely linked to the vision of the world portrayed by the museum. Finally, we arepleased to welcome the Portuguese duo Von Calhau! on 21st September. Please do expect references to the rural world and a rhythmic skeleton that seems to be produced by insects, birds or frogs which is transformed into electronic sounds that could emerge from the outer space.
