EXPO Rodin. "A Modern Renaissance"

In the spring of 2024, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Mons is dedicating a new exhibition to the French sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). The exhibition offers a reinterpretation of his artistic journey, of which Belgium - the rich breeding ground that allowed his art to flourish - is the highlight.

The exhibition will present nearly two hundred of the artist's most famous sculptures, including some monumental, drawings, engravings and paintings, from the Musée Rodin in Paris, international institutions and private collections. Thanks to the many discoveries and comparisons with Rodin's sources of inspiration (Michelangelo, Vesalius, Mabuse, Rubens), it will reveal the sculptor's interest in artistic innovations of the Renaissance that have been little taken into account until now.

As such, the exhibition will allow visitors to rediscover the work of the sculptor Jacques Du Brœucq, master of Gianbologna, as well as a selection of works from the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Mons.

Finally, thanks to the exceptional collaboration of the Belgian artist Berlinde De Bruyckere, Rodin still appears relevant, almost paradoxically, as an essential milestone towards contemporary art.
