Brown Atlantis
Over the past decade, the artist has carried out her artistic research through the creation of multiple artworks, processes, and formats, which together comprise her long-term project Black Atlantis. A project through which she investigates the Black Atlantic and its afterlives in contemporary illegalized migration at sea, oceanic environments, and outer space.Â
Her solo exhibition presents key works from the artist’s multi-faceted project and its more recent reorientation. Included are two textile-audio installations and a screening series of the artist’s video-based works. Collectively, they locate Hameed’s artistic inquiry in subaquatic zones, which she regards as a catalyst for the discovery and formation of new racial potentialities.
