Sonia Kacem
Central to Sonia Kacem's artistic work is her sensitivity to materials that she takes from our everyday consumer cycle: Among them are processed products of various kinds, some of them obtained from second-hand shops or online shops. Using these materials, the artist creates sculptural arrangements to play with our expectations regarding their function.
Her stagings allow for a variety of associations and refer to different periods of art. The influences of Minimal Art are as recognizable as those of the Italian Baroque or Arabic-Islamic art.
The jury was enthusiastic about Kacem's transcultural and transdisciplinary exploration of geometric abstraction because it broadens the perspective of constructive-concrete art.Â
