LIGHT\TRACE No. 7

LIGHT\TRACE No. 7 explores the threshold between material presence and immaterial light. Fine luminous traces move in gentle, symmetrical waves across the cylindrical body of the sculpture. Transparent fibre optics, individually positioned within a two-coloured textile, release their light subtly into the surrounding space. As the ambient light diminishes, the physical body of the sculpture gradually recedes from perception. The cylinder seems to dissolve, leaving only the curved lines of light suspended in space. What initially appears as a tangible object is transformed into an almost immaterial drawing of light. At the heart of the work is a dialogue between reflection and absorption. The inner surface of the cylinder is finished with a platinum coating that reflects the light and gives the interior a cool, almost luminous presence. Its exterior, in contrast, is deep black and absorbs the surrounding light. In darkness, the outer body almost disappears, allowing the luminous traces to become the primary visual structure. Looking into the sculpture from above reveals another spatial dimension. Depending on the viewer’s position, the reflective interior creates changing perspectives and makes the seemingly hidden space within the cylinder perceptible. The work therefore continually shifts between concealment and revelation. The fibre optics emerge from the softly curved, lacquered base, where the material transitions almost seamlessly into the surrounding textile structure. This carefully balanced construction reinforces the impression of lightness and optical dissolution. LIGHT\TRACE No. 7 is like a study in perception: a sculpture that moves between object and light, surface and depth, reflection and absorption. Its presence changes with the surrounding conditions, revealing how profoundly light can transform not only what we see, but also how we perceive space itself.
