Commissioned by Notgalerie, Vienna, “Deracination #1” is a site-specific installation situated at the subway station Aspern/Seestadt in Vienna, Austria.
The work engages with the temporalities of its fast changing surroundings. Embedded into landscaped hill which will make way for a new shopping mall in the near future, the sculpture was constructed out of found local material and taking on an abstract imprint of the topographical shape. As construction commenced, the work was relocated to a nearby 'sculpture alley' keeping a memory of this changing landscape.
