Das Tuch [The shroud]

Object made from synthetic resin, part of 'Romperemos un Pilar' - traveling exhibition in a circus wagon

"The circus wagon turns out to be hearse, a death chamber, a rooom of abdication - a place of saying goodby, of grief and contemplation. Vera Staub carries with her two artworks dealing with the process of dying. The congealed shroud references an absent coffin (the so-called "pregnant coffin"). Thus connecting void and plenitude, it becomes a paradoxical object. Furthermore, the shroud undermines the laws of rationality; what is supposed to cave in, remains erect as an elegant scuplture - possibly a symbol of the mysterious white woman who figures in the nursery rhyme "Romperemos un pilar"?"
