Bell's are Tolling

The work was created in situ in Farmstudio Art Residency, Vysoka, Czech Republic, June 2023.

Inspired by the surrounding environs and the sound of the church bells, this work was made using materials found on the farm site. The conceptual basis of the work is from the observation of how we humans seem to naturally congregate into a community of dwellings from ancient to modern times. Our co-existence seems to be tied within this circle of life and death. The bells tolling in the background remind all of us of time passing. The community of houses hanging in a balance within the metal circle shows how our existence is fragile. The houses are painted white and represents our body. The rusted metal circle is the mind with its history and past. The sound of the stone ringing against the metal is the abstracted sound of the church bells alluding to our spirit.

Visually, the work has been made to balance the viewer's experience of heavy and light; dark and white.
