Nyx, goddess of the night, was one of the ancient Protogenoi, the gods of the elementals. In Hesiod’s Theogony, Nyx is born of Khaos (Air). When she coupled with the god of darkness Erebo, they produced Light and Day; the first components of the primeval universe. Nyx was a primeval goddess usually envisaged as the very substance of night.

Ancient mythology has influenced societies throughout history, offering insight on the human condition, through morality or timeless values and principles, these stories have seeped through the centuries and helped us better understand ourselves as individuals and as a society. Nowadays, we are less connected to the natural cycles of life, of day and night; our guiding lights have somewhat shape-shifted, from the stars to the screens. The over-consumption of curated and "perfect" content, often imitating reality has had a drastic effect on the generations who have evolved online. Western society harbours competition, due to its intrinsically economic system, which in turn leads to its people comparing themselves to each other. Paired with an unhealthy attachement to social media, celebrities, and overall desires to be someone else. In opposition to Buddhism where desire is the root of all suffering, materialism is far from the dogma and self esteem is higher than the western norm.

The paradox of the materials used emphasises the growing divide between body and soul. The gold emphasises the value of the spirit and the mind, our emotions and our intellect. Although a precious material, it represents letting go of materialism and reconnecting with oneself, deeply and honestly; accepting our inner beauty and learning to love ourselves again.

Created in 2014 in Monaco together with Boky Hackel, where engineering and reverse engineering meet, and the symbiosis between these two artists in unquestionable. The 24k gold leaf was  added in Sept 2017 by Boky Hackel.

The method of bronze casting used to create this unique type of lace surface requires several attempts in order to produce the desired results. The four different pieces that make up this sculpture two were recreated and cast several times before all the elements were perfectly formed and acceptable to the artists.
