The inspiration for this series of fragmented sculpture is found within the archeological remnants of many ancient civilisations. The aesthetic properties relating to these artefacts have been cultivated by our society allowing the residual fragment to be appreciated as a complete work of art rather than just a damaged vestige thereof, yet the symbolic reference is found within the injury embodied in each piece.

I have devoted my life to the pursuit of truth, beauty, and hope in figurative sculpture.  I work in clay which gives me a tactile form of expression and a means to push the boundaries of the human form. There is a certain truth in the composition and proportions of every piece. As well, I believe that where the works convey issues of social significance, I speak of a socio-political reality.

Within the Fragments collection, I set out to create a fusion of classical sculpture that pushes the limits of post-modern deconstruction. While these are not remnants from antiquity, there is an underlying classical reference to ancient notions of idealised beauty. My desire is to translate my art into a statement both humanistic and representational in an attempt to promote an insight into human values.

Speaking specifically of Fragments, I believe that within the human form our history is alive with both a vision of beauty and an opposite form of menacing historical truth.
