‘Crack’, Plaster of Paris Directional Forces 2013 Artoll, Bedburg-Hau, Germany www.artoll.de

As a site specific installation artist, the site played a very significant role in informing the work I made. The site seemed rather brown and desolate. Surrounded by buildings which were being used as clinics or were prisons for criminally insane made quite an impact on me.The broken decrepit tiles in the verandah adjacent to my space reminded me largely of the fragmented fragile physical and mental status of people who used to and continue to inhabit the space. It seemed like the cracks on the tiles though visually organic were generated by the impact of rain, wind and the sheer physical pressure of people walking on them.
My plaster sculptures became a physical and aesthetic record of this sense of fragility that pervades the mind.
