Mappa

I am a sitespecific artist and rely on the site to work on. I started off with a pyrograph as my drawing tool and chose a log from the hills in Atina to work on. As the log was dirty and been in the woods for a long starting sanding it down...found it rather unwieldy and heavy...must weigh around 50 kilos! with nothing else to do..made the sanding as my main art activity...after a couple days of sanding..i started finding it very therapeutic and relaxing into it...enjoying the repetitive action of sanding...slowly and surely these beautiful patterns started emerging from the log. As the sanding peels away the layers of time, more history is revealed. Soon things started falling in place..the log became a representation of the self..metaphorically it me that was being sanded and as one persists and gets deeper and sheds layers, one gets to know and understand things about oneself that are deeply hidden.
Things become clear over a period of time......Some viewers called my log 'time capsule'.or 'mappa' said..made them look deeper..
