monica alonso

Mònica Alonso is a visual artist based in Barcelona, Spain. Her practice spans installation and sculpture, which she approaches as processes of sensitive listening to places and to the bodies that inhabit them. Working with textiles, plastics, drawing, video, and found materials, she creates perceptual situations that explore the social and environmental tensions involved in inhabiting shared spaces, without resorting to literal representation.

Her ongoing projects, including MUTATIS MUTANDIS, WOUNDED MATTER, and ASPHYXIA, investigate the vulnerability, transformation, and resilience of bodies and landscapes. Her recent presentations include a solo exhibition at the Museu de la MediterrĂ nia in Torroella de MontgrĂ, Spain (2026), as well as site-responsive projects developed during artist residencies at BigCi in the Blue Mountains, Australia, and in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (2025).

I am a visual artist based in Barcelona, working primarily with installation and sculpture. My practice begins with attentive observation and sensitive listening to places, materials, and the bodies that inhabit them.

Through textiles, plastics, drawing, video, and found materials, I create perceptual situations that explore vulnerability, transformation, and resilience. I am particularly interested in how bodies and landscapes carry visible and invisible wounds, and in how artistic experience can awaken forms of perception that contemporary life often leaves dormant.
