Naomi Akimoto
Naomi Akimoto prefers to work with the traditional material of clay. For her, this natural material has its own life. It offers her the possibility to form it with her hands, thereby allowing emotions, energy and thoughts to flow in without ruling out the accidental. She controls her work process on the boundary between chance and control.
Another important element in her work is the interplay between inner and outer. The inner spaces of her sculptures often consist of peculiar structures and play as important a role as the outer space.
Drawing for Naomi Akimoto is on the one hand, an important preparatory tool for her objects and installations, and on the other, a means of independent artistic expression.
