MK KAEHNE
*1963 lives and works in Berlin and Brandenburg

Born in Vilnius (Lithuania), the artist has a biography that oscillates between Moscow, East Berlin and today's Berlin Republic. Socialist socialisation plays an important role in the work of the artist, who actually comes from painting and continues to draw without intention.

MK Kaehne is a sculptor who plans and builds systems with precision. In their detailed mechanics and consistent execution, his sculptures are luxurious fulfilment kits that offer everything you need in everyday life, from a whisk to a tie pin. But Kaehne is no design fetishist! In their department stores' aesthetics, his works are art objects with which he wants to break with the glossed-over view of the consumer world. A picture of real life.

In terms of grammatical form and discursive content, he places himself in the context of his role models, such as Malevich or Duchamp. To create an image that is coherent, both intellectually and formally.

In his objects, the sculptor precisely formulates social themes and takes the constructivist approach seriously. The work on the subject is strictly analytical, but Kaehne's results are ironic.

The projection surface is the artist's biographical experience. Subjectivity is abstracted to such an extent that it becomes a work of art. "Everything can flow into creativity through vigilant observation. Without intention, without wanting to," says MK Kaehne, but "it absolutely has to be value-free!"
