⁡Antoinette Donkers-Dekker

My work includes sculptures of people and animals as well as more abstract forms.
They are often auto biografic.
I call my pieces 'images of hope'.

Dark and light, earth and heaven are central themes in my entire body of work, together with human emotion. My pieces show my personal development, they are often autobiographic.

In recent years, light has played a larger role in my work than before. The light grows, while forms, which for a long time used to be figurative and expressive, are becoming more abstract. A balance develops between the dark and the light, a balance between earth and heaven.

Sometimes sculptures are white or transparent. In this context, white symbolizes the source, purity, strength, and vulnerability.

Nowadays, I regularly work intuitively and directly with the material rather than from a preconceived idea. Nevertheless, working by a plan and figuration remain recurring aspects. And recently, there has been a development towards expression and color.

In the end, I hope my work can be a source of inspiration for others – that the pieces may serve as a beacon of peace, joy, strength, comfort or hope.

In connection with my theme I like to make portraits, urns and memorial art.
