Livia C. Gondos

My sculptures are made of bronze, stone or mortar and are 25 to 125 cm high. They have organic shapes and complex topologies. The bronzes are patinated. The mortar works are painted in bright acrylics. The title tells you what inspired me to this work. I've been told it can help to find an approach, but don't worry, if you don't think so. I'm happy if you just like the shape and colour, or if you find it appealing in some way or see something in it.

While growing up bilingually with both my parents each having yet another language as their native one I was always interested in language and languages, but found words insufficient to express the more complex ideas, thoughts and dreams turning up in my imagination.

In creating sculptures I found a new language where I could express myself in a more abstract way. Studying  mathematics, particularly topology, I found inspiration for more abstract shapes and transformations.

You can create shapes in art that don't exist in nature, but still look familiar. Part of an abstract sculpture might remind you of an animal, another of someone dancing or fighting.  A sculpture might change its character completely if you look at it from another angle.
