human cubes WALL 92

The artwork ‘human cubes WALL 92’ consists of 92 handcrafted wooden cubes made from European beech, alder, maple, walnut, laburnum, olive and chestnut. Each individual cube has been precisely cut to size, its edges carefully sanded, and then joined to the next cube using beechwood dowels, glue and clamps. The sculpture is suspended within the steel frame by a 1 mm-thick stainless steel cable. As in his previous series, ‘human flow’ and ‘human nails’, Hellweger creates a harmonious whole from a multitude of individual elements. Each cube symbolises a thought, an emotion or a feeling in a person’s life. Taken together, the cubes represent the complexity, diversity and interconnectedness of human experiences. The steel frame has been waxed and polished to provide lasting protection against oxidation. There are two hanging points on the reverse side, enabling simple and secure wall mounting.
