Fluxurious! Art and Anti-Art from the 1960s to the 1990s

With the exhibition ‘Fluxuriös!’, the Archiv der Avantgarden is dedicating itself to one of the most uncompromising artistic movements of the 20th century. Fluxus and the action art of the 1960s to 1990s broke with conventional art forms and allowed everyday life, forms of communication and playfulness to merge.

The presentation brings together works by international artists such as George Brecht, Joseph Beuys, Charlotte Moorman, Dick Higgins, Ben Vautier, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Takako Saito and Wolf Vostell. With their experiments and performances, they dissolved the boundaries between art and everyday life – not only challenging the art world, but also changing itprofoundly.

The works on display reflect the diversity of Fluxus – from performative actions and mail art to interdisciplinary happenings. They show how the artists understood this movement as a lively, open and social process that playfully and subversively questioned traditional forms and constantly reinvented itself.

The exhibition features numerous multiples and so-called Fluxkits, which consist of everyday objects and works on paper. The show is complemented by graphic works and extensive archive material. All exhibits belong to the ADA's collection.

‘Fluxurious!’ invites visitors to discover the impulses of this pioneering movement – and to experience the enduring significance of Fluxus as an inspiration for contemporary artistic and social action.
