Competition for Handicraft and Design: "Rethinking Headgear!"

Rethinking Headgear!
10th competition for handicraft and design
Handwerksmuseum Deggendorf

Every three years the Handwerksmuseum (museum of crafts) organizes a competition on the creation of an everyday item. In 2025, the theme of the tenth competition is „Rethinking headgear“. Shape, material, size and manufacturing technique can be chosen optionally. Large or small, classic, trendy or extravagant; headgear can exist in all colors, shapes and materials and be versatile; made of textile, wood or ceramic, metal or glass, simple or elaborate: They are as unique as the person who wears or adorns them. Whether hats as sun protection or for decoration, protective headgear such as helmets, or even sophisticated wigs – to name just a few examples – can be submitted to the competition.

The competition is open to professionally working craftsmen, designers, apprentices and students. All those participating may apply with no more than three headgears designed and completed all by themselves. The Handwerksmuseum offers € 3,000 as a prize. In addition, only works that have not yet won an award are eligible.

The works admitted to the competition will be displayed at a special exhibition at the Handwerksmuseum from March 30 2025 to June 15, 2025. The awarding of prizes will take place at the opening of the special exhibition on March 29 2025. A catalog documenting the competition entries will be published to accompany the exhibition.

The submission deadline is November 30 2024.
