Wall Design Citypeach 2024

The Citypeach Graz is an event location under the main bridge in Graz and consists of a guest garden, a stage and a bar container in the public space on the Murpromenade - directly in front of a very large wall surface, which contributes significantly to the visual design of the location and characterises its content. The design of this wall surface is awarded to an artist every 2 years and realised by him/her.

The highlight of the "Stadtpfirsich" is the music programme, which not only promotes regional and predominantly young artists and musicians and offers a platform for exchange and further development, but also promises the city of Graz and Graz tourism a musical highlight in the centre of the old town through the spring and summer months. Citypeach offers a varied and regional music programme without charging admission. The focus is on young artists of all genres, who are offered an open stage not only for guests but also for passers-by and tourists.

This open call is aimed at all artists of any form (fine arts, graphics, painting,...) who not only submit their large-scale concept as a draft, but will also subsequently realise it independently. The aim is to create a concept with strong content and an appealing design for the Citypeach, which reflects the idea and the "spirit" of the location. The artwork should also be realised in the period October to April (when the Citypeach is not under construction) to characterise the Murpromenade location and the view from from the Erzherzog Johann Bridge.

The area to be designed...
A wall with some protrusions, power lines and steps and a total area of approx. 7m x 17m (see photos and plans).
From May to September it is part of the Citypeach Graz location and will be illuminated in colour and equipped with floorboards, tables and cushions. On the left, the area protrudes under the bridge, so the artwork can be the artwork can be closed off as desired. In the right-hand area, the bar container closes off the the area to be designed.

Aim and content...
The aim is to create a large, impressive work of art in the public space that, on the one hand, fits in well with the local conditions and, on the other hand, to help shape and visually define the Citypeach Graz location for the next 2 years.

The jury will take the following criteria into account when selecting a winning project:
:: artistic quality and
:: relevance in terms of content (for the city centre as well as for the cityscape)
:: realistic feasibility

Please submit...
A draft for the design of the entire area in the form of a PDF or JPG with a brief description of the content and material, including material costs. The design should be clearly understandable and not raise any unanswered questions. The design by Gernoth Passath in 2022 is enclosed as an example and template.

Timetable...
Submission deadline: 31 January 2024
Jury meeting: February
Winning project will be contacted personally at the end of February
Realisation of the winning project: April 2024
Opening of Citypeach season 2024: 1 May 2024

Prize money and budget...
The winning project will receive € 3000,- net for the realisation order after completion. Material costs will be covered additionally (max. 500,- net).
In the following year, the winner should restore and renew his/her work of art again - the budget will be determined in spring 2025 according to the effort and agreement.
