Skulpturenmuseum im Hofberg - Stiftung Koenig
Fritz Koenig. Installation In the museum rooms located underground inside the Landshut Hofberg, an overview of his entire sculptural and graphic work is presented in an exhibition organised by the sculptor himself. Selected works of art are exhibited in a broad arc spanning the sixty years of his creative career, which revolve around the main motifs in his work: The figure of man in the field of tension of his existence, which is determined by love, death and the awareness of (his own) transience, takes centre stage. Another focus is on the works in public space: from the ‘Pietà ’ in Berlin-Plötzensee (1962) to the ‘Spherical Caryatid N.Y.’ on the plaza of the World Trade Centre, which was destroyed in 2001 (1968-1971), to the model of the Berlin Holocaust Memorial (1994), the sculptor's work impressively traces the development of sculpture in our time.
Fritz Koenig. Cult Image. From Work and Collection The Sculpture Museum in the Hofberg as a guest at the Cistercian Abbey of Seligenthal Since 21 June 2013, the permanent exhibition Fritz Koenig. Cult Image. From his work and collection has been open. The sculptor Fritz Koenig, born in 1924, is an artist, collector and man deeply rooted in the old Bavarian world of faith. Since the beginnings of his artistic work in the late 1940s, he has created a wealth of sacred works, either on official commission or on his own initiative. This engagement with iconographic traditions finds its counterpart in the sculptor's rich art and cultural history collections: the central themes of not only Christian devotion and memoria can be found in works of art and artefacts on many levels. The temporary home in the cloister of the cloister area of Seligenthal Monastery for selected artefacts from the oeuvre and collection of the Fritz and Maria Koenig Foundation is a great exhibition opportunity, a precious gift to the work. In this special place, the works experience a tangible spiritual charge. Public guided tours
