Wolf Vostell. SUN IN YOUR HEAD

The Museo Vostell Malpartida (MVM) invites you to the opening of the exhibition ‘Sun in Your Head’, to mark its 50th anniversary.

In 1976, Mercedes and Wolf Vostell founded the MVM, one of Spain’s first museums of contemporary art. It is situated in the Barruecos Natural Monument, in Malpartida de Cáceres, in a former 18th-century wool-washing hall. From the outset, Vostell conceived the MVM as a museum without walls, where life, art and nature merge into a single, ongoing work. Video art has been part of the MVM’s identity since its foundation 50 years ago, and ‘Sun in Your Head’ highlights this aspect of the collection to mark the anniversary.

The exhibition presents a selection of works by Wolf Vostell in which, from 1958 onwards, he made television both the subject and the medium of his art. These include Transmigración III (1958), the installation 6 TV-Dé-coll/age (1963)—on loan from the Reina Sofía Museum—and the installation You (1964), created during the happening of the same name.

In parallel, the MVM is presenting a group exhibition of international video art and extending the dialogue to the digital image, featuring Nevin Aladağ, Natalie Bookchin, Daniel Canogar, Nezaket Ekici, Eva & Franco Mattes, Bjørn Melhus, Rosa Menkman and Sabrina Ratté.
