Dialogue in Kortrijk: Henk Visch at Be-Part and the Dejagere – Aerts Collection
Join us for an exclusive visit to the Dejagere – Aerts Collection and the exhibition of internationally renowned sculptor Henk Visch in Kortrijk, Belgium, guided throughout by art critic and curator Hilde van Canneyt.
Our next Sculpture Network Dialogue takes us to Kortrijk (Belgium) for a day combining a major solo exhibition by Henk Visch at Be-Part with a private visit to the Dejagere – Aerts Collection, one of Belgium's most distinguished private art collections.
Henk Visch (b. 1950, Eindhoven, NL) has built an international reputation with poetic sculptures, poems and drawings. Central to his practice is the human figure as carrier of thoughts, memories, longings and doubts. The posture of his timeless figures alludes to an attitude to life: the physical act of "standing" can be read as a metaphor for "existing", and one's "standpoint" as a metaphor for our positions and states of mind. Visch does not wish to impose anything on the viewer — instead, he holds up a mirror to us. As he puts it, "art exists to reveal man to himself." His work is presented at Be-Part, in the characteristic stables of the former Tack brewery.
Dejagere – Aerts Collection is the culmination of years of dedication, expertise and a deep passion for art. The collection is housed across two architectural spaces in Kortrijk: the main building, DOORN, and the newer addition, NOORD. The façade of the collection space, conceived by acclaimed artist Wesley Meuris, is a sculptural statement in itself, merging architecture and artistic intent and setting the tone for what lies within. While primarily a private collection, DA Collection occasionally opens its doors to the public for thoughtfully curated theme exhibitions that relate contemporary paintings and sculptures to historical artworks.
