Forgiveness

Portrait Of My Mother- A work In Progress

The conclusion of the series “Mother Love” culminates in the sculpture “Forgiveness”.
She looks down at her old, knotty hands and bears heavily the burden of guilt from passing on maternal obsessions and outdated virtues of an unmerciful time. Through the grace of forgiveness for a mother who acted out of love and suffered herself, the cycle of suffering is broken. The mother and the child within her, identify with the suffering, acknowledge it.

The stigmata in the hands are symbols of pain and compassion. Through forgiveness, the next generation can begin to heal the wounds inflicted.
