British Art: Convergences

This exhibition shows the impact of artists from different geographies on the configuration of art in the United Kingdom in the 20th century, bringing together an important group of works of British art from the CAM Collection and the Coleção Berardo.

‘British Art – Convergences’ presents over 100 works by 74 artists, including Bridget Riley, David Hockney, Anthony Gormley, Francis Bacon, Rachel Whiteread, Frank Auerbach and David Bomberg.

The exhibition also presents a group of Portuguese artists – Paula Rego, Bartolomeu Cid dos Santos, Menez, Eduardo Batarda, Fernando Calhau, Graça Pereira Coutinho, João Penalva and Rui Sanches – who, at different times, sought training and, in some cases, took up residence in London.

In partnership with Tinta-da-china editions, a book of essays will be published in which, among various texts on the themes running through the exhibition, the eight Portuguese artists are presented as ‘case studies.’
