With his artwork, Rooijakkers highlights the connection between the defensive structures of the Zuiderwaterlinie by symbolically threading them together with needle and blue thread. The needle and thread can be found on a large scale during De Sprong and the festival, and serve as a beacon along the walking route that links the fortifications. The events require, just as they did 350 years ago, significant involvement from numerous partners. The artwork runs like a blue thread throughout this. The needles that are pierced into the landscape resemble lances and other weaponry. However, needle and thread are not intended for fighting here, but for stitching. The battered landscape, which was split in two by water, is once again whole.
