Three artists tell us about the challenges and characteristics of their favorite material, paper.

Ann Weber US is reknowed for her monumental paper sculptures that trigger our imagination. After working with clay, in 1991, Ann Weber chose cardboard as a medium, enabling her to work on a larger scale. Her work takes on new meaning when she repurposes cardboard boxes due to internet shopping, transforming them into beauty.

Karen Sargsyan (b. in Armenia, lives in the Netherlands) became internationally famous with his vivid tableaux of paper human figures. For him, paper has a symbolic meaning. "Paper refers to books, and books shaped humanity". His personal background, aroused  Sargsyan’s interest in social hierarchies. “Paper is a metaphor for the transience of power”.

Crossing the border between art and design, Helmut Frerick DE plays with the transparency and opacity of paper to create light objects. As a former clinical researcher, he uses his scientific and chemical knowledge to develope his own plant paper. The shrinking of the paper sheets generates the beautiful sculptural shapes.
