Gävle Konstcentrum
Gävle Art Center's operations consist of an art hall with about five temporary exhibitions per year and extensive art pedagogy and program activities.
In the art hall, new art projects are produced in close collaboration with artists and in some cases in collaboration with other curators and contemporary art institutions.
Gävle Art Center is part of Gävle municipality and a platform for Swedish and international contemporary art. The audience meets contemporary art through an activity that contributes to discussion and understanding of contemporary art's historical, social and cultural contexts. Contemporary art is based on an idea-based approach and creates opportunities to critically reflect on the time and society in which we live.
Gävle municipality has a rich and extensive art collection. The collection is deposited in the municipality's various premises and every year new works are purchased.
GĂ„VLE'S PUBLIC ART
Gävle Municipality's public art collection consists of approximately 330 works. Art has traditionally an important place in Gävle's urban environment. In streets and squares, in parks and in residential areas there are works by both Swedish and international artists.
Gävle Art Center handles the municipality's purchase of art, project managers artistic design assignments and registers and manages the municipality's art collection. We also regularly organize public art shows. Gävle Art Center works actively to deepen the discussion about the city as a public space and the importance of art for and in the urban space.
