Tishan Hsu
We are only at the beginning of Web3 and have no idea what impact this even greater digitalization and connectivity will have on our lives. This makes it immensely fascinating and rewarding to take a closer look at an artist like Tishan Hsu, whose work is so closely associated with the immediate pre-Web1 era. With his foresight and belief that he was witnessing the birth of a technology that would change and impact every single aspect of life on this planet, Hsu was a pioneer in the field of art and technology and a forerunner of today's digital art.
Since the beginning of his artistic career in the 1980s, Hsu has been concerned with the increasing technologization of the world and its impact on human bodies and societies. At the dawn of the Internet age, when computerization was still in its infancy and universal global access to the Internet was a dream of the future, Hsu was one of the visionaries who recognized the great impact these new technologies would have on all of us and everything that happens in the world - on economics and politics, on social interaction, media, art and culture.
Like many artists who were ahead of their time, Tishan Hsu did not gain widespread recognition until much later, especially among a younger generation who instinctively recognized the language of his work as both relevant and exotic.
