Boat in a tilted position
Chakal prefers to create ships and boats worldwide, which he places on rocks and hills or in open terrain. He uses cut bamboo, yew branches and rusty scrap from old railway tracks for his artwork on the grounds of the Old Neanderthal Station. Materials that normally end up as garden and park maintenance products on a compost heap or rust in the scrap yard.Â
Behind these works is a message: respectful and attentive treatment of nature is indispensable. Otherwise we will capsize - because the resources on our earth are limited. An ark, a boat, will not save people into an intact world...because its boats would sink or capsize as in the case of the object "The boat is overloaded". The boat will be left to nature and with time it will lie on the ground as a skeleton. Chakal's Land Art project is compatible with Helmut BĂĽchter's steel sculptures. These can be admired in the surroundings of the boat on the terrain.Â
Chakal has worked for five years as a nature artist and workshop lecturer in Land Art. In former times he was creative director in an advertising agency and IHK trainer for designers. During his studies of visual communication he focused on three-dimensional artwork. He studied object design at the Fachhochschule Niederrhein. Chakal lives in DĂĽsseldorf and Sweden.
