The Sky over Berlin

GEDOK Berlin in the frame of the EMOP Berlin - European Month of Photography

The Sky over Berlin

The exhibition titled "The Sky over Berlin" refers to the film by Wim Wenders from 1987. Wenders proves a sense of the ‚Zeitgeist‘ of the time in it and captures a certain spirit of change that should only took a few years to lead to the fall of the wall. The film reflects the divided Berlin and the desires, wishes and expectations that were projected onto the reunion of the two Germany. Today, barely thirty years later, the question arises, what remains of it. This is the main theme of the exhibition. For many people the Berlin of the 1990s embodied the land of unlimited possibilities par excellence. Here one believed to have found fertile ground for ones own individual andcreative unfoldment. Berlin still functions as a projection screen for these wishes. But, the city changes rapidly and the open spaces, that had been a special feature of Berlin compared to all other big cities, are getting smaller. With their work the artists of the gallery explore these processes of change and the current realities.
