Ravens look fascinating and are also filled with mysterious life through the stories that people tell about them. Of messengers of the gods, counselors, wise men sitting on shoulders, whispering wisdom into sacred ears that no one else understands. The gallows birds, bringers of doom or flying around the mountain, tell of whether times have already changed until the 7 brothers, rejected by their parents, could only be redeemed by the love of their sister.
The first bird Noah sent out was the raven, which did not return.
The second was the dove, which returned without good news. A few days later, the third bird, the dove - which finally carried the redemptive message in the form of a branch of olive oil. The great flood is over.
As so often, almost as always, I would like to say - people are confronted with the consequences of their actions, all too readily forget the cause of why this flood also happened and look for the blame and the culprit everywhere - just not where they should be looking.
In Noah's story, the raven is declared the devil, a monster who selfishly eats corpses and people. He is cursed so that he does not recognize his own children, the color black forever and ever marks his appearance, his voice is no longer a voice, degenerating into an ominous croak.
If I close my eyes and let the many stories pass by, I am left with a story from Norse mythology, the one in which Odin and his two ravens, Munin and Hugin, roamed the battlefields on his shoulders to invite the souls of the slain warriors to join him at his table. The only condition: they must have mastered their tasks in life and died bravely.
Quite a few stories tell that Odin was advised on these decisions by the ravens. Whether this is true or not, one thing seems certain: the ravens were always there.
What remains “when the raven touches man”.
